Wonderful! I never saw anyone do it that. I’ve never seen anyone like that also. Maybe it is not how we look on but how we pay tribute and devotion in our god. Good work for you .You are doing that much better. Thanks for the brilliant review! We also liked the book very much.

Beth,

I lived in an area of Atlanta, Ga in the United States for over 15 years that is extremely diverse. With huge populations of individuals from many countries and religions. In fact the largest Hindu Shrine in the United States was completed a couple of years ago.

I have seen many women from the Islamic faith. One thing I noticed is that older generations from other countries tend to dress conservative while children born in the U.S. do not.

Does your Visibly Muslim discuss both dress in the U.S. and the differences between older and younger generations?

Sean

I bought and read Visibly Muslim and I recommend it highly. It's meticulously researched and documented and the author does an excellent job of analyzing what it means to express one's self as a Muslim through clothing, particularly the hijab. What amazed me was how much the book covers: individual styles of and reasons for dressing hijab, political reactions to Islamic clothing, on-line and brick-and-mortar stores devoted to modest clothing, along with their philosophies and business models, and so on. And yes, she has a wonderful section on SHUKR.
